The Odyssey Creative Projects
Below are
ideas for projects on The Odyssey unit
we are studying. Your project will be graded on the amount of knowledge you
present, the creativity of your project, the mechanics of good writing, and
overall quality. JUST CHOOSE ONE.

1.
Mount Olympus Newspaper
a.
Create
a newspaper that the Gods might have read. You will need to include popular
sections just like a real newspaper: sports, world news, local news,
entertainment, comics, advice column, etc. Make sure that the contents of your
newspaper reflect all your knowledge of Greek Mythology and The Odyssey. Your project will be graded
on the amount of knowledge that you present, the creativity of your project,
and all mechanics of good writing.
2.
Create a Board Game
a.
Create a board game based on The
Odyssey. You are the judge for this assignment; you make the rules. Your
game must include a title, a board, game pieces, illustrations, and an
instruction booklet to go with it. Remember that this assignment will be graded
on creativity, integrity to the original epic, writing conventions, and final
appearance.
3.
Create a Comic Strip
a.
Draw
a comic strip about The Odyssey and
tell his story through art. Your comic strip must have a minimum of 10 frames. If
you’d like to do this using technology, visit www.toondoo.com. It’s a free cartoon making website;
you simply create an account.
4.
Life Graph for Odysseus
a.
Show all major events from Odysseus’
side of The Odyssey on an illustrated time line. This assignment MUST
include illustrations, labels, and quotes. Remember that this assignment will
be graded on creativity, integrity to the original epic, writing conventions,
and final appearance. Feel free to use technology websites like www.tiki-toki.com or www.capzles.com.
5.
Travel Brochure
a.
Create
a cruise travel brochure based on Odysseus’ travels. This brochure should be
colorful, creative, and written to entice travelers to
spend their money on your cruise. Use a lot of descriptive language that will
encourage would-be cruisers to take your cruise!
6.
Artistic Work
a.
Create a full-sized drawing,
sculpture, or painting for The Odyssey. It must represent at least one
aspect of the epic poem (Odysseus battling Polyphemus, Penelope weaving at her
loom, Athena watching Odysseus, etc.). Please include a one page explanation/description
with the piece. Remember that this assignment will be graded on creativity,
effort, and integrity to the original epic.
